VIRGINIA IS A
BUYER BEWARE STATE!!!
The Importance of Septic Inspections
Is this a scene from a sci-fi film? No Folks, this is a distribution box that has trees growing next to it! Those tiny, squiggly things are tiny tree roots....seeking moisture and fertilizer and the distribution box is the perfect food source for trees and brush growing close by!
Unless the home you want to purchase has had a Health Department clearance very recently, you NEVER give up your septic contingency! This neglected septic field cost the seller over $3,500 to fix. The roots not only went into the distribution box but also started traveling down the header pipes.
Here's a great video explaining septic systems. Septic inspections
I think this video is made in California so this is different from the Virginia Department of Health requirements but it still has a lot of good info. If you buy a home with a septic system, always have the inspector explain to you how to properly take care of your system and the land around it or it could cost you a WHOLE LOTTA $$$$!
